On Saturday, November 5th, we will hold our fifth Serve Day. Our goal for this day is to get people of all ages from each site working together for the good of our cities. We will tackle hands-on projects at sites around Edmonton and Sherwood Park. Serve Day will provide us a chance to help some of our valued ministry partners and our neighbours in a variety of tangible, significant ways.
Here’s a look at the projects in which we plan to engage that day at each site:
CONNORS HILL
Youth Emergency Shelter. We will help out at YESS with yard clean-up from 1-4pm. Note this opportunity is for ADULTS ONLY.
The Mustard Seed Prairie Manor. On Saturday morning, we will help with a brunch gathering at the Prairie Manor, which is The Mustard Seed's supportive housing unit in the Whyte Avenue area. This event will include lots of games and activities and will provide a good opportunity for interaction and relationship building with the residents of Prairie Manor. The precise time for this project is yet to be confirmed.
The Neighbour Centre. We aim to send a team of five adults (18+) to The Neighbour Centre from 4-7pm to engage in meal preparation and to share dinner with the residents.
Raking for Seniors. We have a few seniors that attend Connors Hill that can use help with leaf raking at their homes. Come with some rakes ready to bless these special members of our congregation!
SOUTHEAST
Please meet at Southeast at 12:45pm sharp for brief orientation, and we’ll aim to be on our way by 1pm. The day will wrap up around 4:30pm. Please note if we don’t have enough people to pull off certain projects we may ask to move you to a different team.
Childcare Support. We are partnering with an organization in our neighbourhood that provides various supports and services for families and kids. On Serve Day, we’ll provide childcare for these supported parents right at our Southeast site. With our kindness and joyfulness, we will lead activities and games for kids. This is an easy way for us to show care for families who likely have never been to our church before. (Please no volunteers younger than grade 7).
Raking the Neighbourhood. This service opportunity will give us a simple way to help people in our community in a practical way—by raking their leaves! For this opportunity, bring your helpful attitude and a rake or two and we’ll all get blisters together! If the snow has come, we’ll shift to a shovelling crew. (All ages welcome to join!)
Prayer Walk. We’ll walk around the Summerside neighbourhood (and possibly beyond) while praying to God. In this time where we are starting site-specific Serve Days, we want to be asking God to show us the needs in the areas around our site and invite him to show us how he wants us to engage. Then we’ll have an opportunity to share and report back what we’re hearing to help with future planning. It’s going to be awesome! (All ages welcome to join!)
Plumbing and Carpet Cleaning. The Love Kitchen ministry is asking for 2-3 skilled individuals to (1) hook up a sink and taps and (2) clean the office carpets (cleaner and solution is on site). (Volunteers need to know how to plumb and have their own tools, and/or know how to clean carpet).
Care Packages. We’ll be bringing granola bars, bottled water, socks, and other goodies into bags that you can keep with you in your car and share with someone in need when you see them. As well, we hope to have kids and adults write prayers that we’ll include in the bags. If you are willing to provide some of the supplies, please let us know in the comments section below so we can plan well. (All ages welcome to join!)
SHERWOOD PARK
Raking the Neighbourhood. This service opportunity will give us a simple way to help people in our community in a practical way—by raking their leaves! For this opportunity, meet at the church at 9am, bring your helpful attitude and a rake or two, and we’ll all get blisters together! If the snow has come, we’ll shift to a shovelling crew. (All ages welcome to join!)

Please note that we will need to have everyone who wants to participate in Serve Day to sign up no later than Sunday, October 30th. You will receive an email containing important info about your project (location, what to wear, any supplies you might be asked to bring) in advance of November 5th.
We hope that individuals, families, and GROUPS at each site of our church will plan to join us on November 5th. This will be a great opportunity to serve others outside the walls of our church, to connect with people at your site, and to come away with a sense of accomplishment. You don't want to miss it!
Please let us know if you have any questions, and we look forward to seeing you there!
