TEACHING RECAP

Summary: Deep in our souls, we feel that history and our universe has a purpose, that it’s going somewhere, that life must have a deep meaning. But we struggle to put our finger on it, and so often we live in ways that make our lives more empty. Until we understand and align ourselves with the true reason and purpose of the cosmos, we will never experience the thriving that our hearts long for. Spoiler alert: Jesus is the key to all of this.

Main Points:

  1. Jesus is the fullness of God.

  2. Jesus is the Lord of creation.

  3. Jesus is the King of new creation.

  4. Jesus is the key to our thriving.

On-Ramps:

  • Respond in worship as you marvel at Jesus’ creation.

  • Experience new creation by participating deeply in Jesus’ church.

  • Allow and invite Jesus’ kingship in your daily life.

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • In verses 15-17, what does this passage teach about Jesus’ involvement in creation?

  • Read verse 20. What is your understanding of what it means that Jesus will “reconcile all things”? How does verse 20 say that Jesus will accomplish this?

  • How would you describe our society’s typical views about the origin and reason for our universe? How does the view described in today’s passage offer more hope and purpose?

  • Reflect on the fact that the God who created, sustains and fills the whole universe, became a person and died for us. What does this reveal about the heart and character of God? How might this truth impact our lives?

  • How do you want to respond to this passage in your daily life?
