TEACHING RECAP

Summary: Sometimes, we get it wrong—and even when we know it, we double down. We twist truth, hold onto control, and redefine grace to fit what we want. But what if there’s a better way? In this talk, we look at one of the most famous trials in history to see how Jesus meets us in our mess and turns everything upside down.

Main Points:

  1. We corrupt power, trying to control people and circumstances. (Jesus obeys the Father and surrenders his life.)

  2. We avoid truth, not because it’s hard to find, but because it challenges how we live. (Jesus reveals God to us and calls us to change.)

  3. We twist grace, choosing what feels good over what is truly good. (Jesus takes our punishment and gives us new life.)

On-Ramps:

  • Instead of grasping for control, surrender your life and your choices to God.

  • Instead of resisting truth, get to know Jesus through his word and his people.

  • Instead of twisting grace, embrace the full transformation Jesus offers.

Discussion

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • Where are you grasping for control? Where does your life look more like
the religious leaders, Pilate or the crowd, than it looks like Jesus?

  • Why do you think it’s so hard for our culture to accept Truth? How does Jesus’ challenge to accept Him as the Truth invite people to something better?

  • What kind of impact would your surrender to God’s transformation have in you, in your relationships, and in your witness?

  • How do you want to respond to this passage in your daily life?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?
