TEACHING RECAP

Summary: As followers of Jesus, when it comes to healthy sexuality, how do we know the truth, live the truth and carry the truth with grace in a society where many are offended by Christian beliefs?

Main Points:

  1. The Bible teaches a simple and consistent set of truths about healthy sexuality, and Christian’s have believed these truths for thousands of years.

  2. We can pursue healthy sexuality by growing in the truth, humbly confessing sin and sharing life deeply with God and his people.

  3. God calls us to live the truth with conviction, but he also commands us to carry the truth with grace, offering God’s forgiveness and fresh start to everyone.

On-Ramps:

  • Pursue a greater understanding of the Bible’s life-giving truths on this topic.

  • When you are shocked by sexual brokenness in our society, let your first responses be humility, confession and prayer. (celebrate humble month)

  • When you see sexual sin in the church, graciously challenge it, with the goal of restoration rather than judgment.

  • Listen, learn from, and be kind to everyone.

  • Deeply love people, and seek opportunities to share about the grace and fresh start that is available in Jesus Christ.

Discussion

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • WORD: 1-2 questions getting people to dig into the scripture. Keep it more objective.

  1. Read Genesis 1:27-28 and reflect on what it means to be made in His image. What does that say about you, about others, and about God?

  2. In John 8:2-11, how is being made in the image of God reflected in Jesus’ response to the woman and the others?

  • WORLD: 1-2 questions getting people to look out into society reflecting on the themes of the passage.

  1. Jeremy challenged us to look inside before we look to others. How can you/can we as followers of Jesus grow in responding to Truth, humbly confessing sin, and in sharing our life with others?

  2. How would looking on the inside first affect the way we live our Truth on the outside, within culture?

  • LIVES: 1-2 questions that push towards practical application.

  1. In response to our culture’s Scripture-opposed stance on sexuality, do you tend to lean too heavily in loving without courage to hold a conviction or are you too strong on speaking/holding to the Truth but with too little love?

  2. Are you a safe person for those struggling with sin to reach out to?

  • How do you want to respond to this passage in your daily life?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?
