TEACHING RECAP

Summary: The biggest things in life often begin with a single, courageous step. Whether you're desiring more in life or wondering where God is calling you, your first step, no matter how small, can lead to extraordinary transformation.

Main Points:

  1. First steps grow in the soil of discontent.

  2. First steps are fertilized by gratitude.

  3. First steps come to life in moments of courage.

  4. First steps are simple and full of potential.

On-Ramps:

  • What is your next “first step”?

Discussion

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • Talk together about the story leading up to Joshua 1. Take a few moments and try to recap the main elements of (1) God calling Abraham, (2) Jacob’s family moving to Egypt (Joseph figures pretty strong in this), (3) the birth and ministry of Moses, and (4) Israel’s time in the wilderness. What additional insights do these things give you into the “moment” of Joshua 1?

  • Compare (1) the world’s idea of taking your next big “first step” and (2) this same idea within a life of following Jesus? How are they similar and how are they different?

  • Share about a next “first step” that may be coming in your life.

  • How do you want to respond to this passage in your daily life?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?

  • Next week: Romans 12:4-8
